RAPIDS, Iowa -- Adrian
Nelson from Oelwein High School has signed a letter of intent
to join the Mount Mercy College women’s basketball team,
Head Coach Shawn Stimmel announced.
Nelson, a
5-7 guard from Oelwein, was an Iowa Class 3A third-team all-state
selection by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association after averaging
14 points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals per game
as a senior. The two-time all-Northeast Iowa Conference and two-time
all-district selection was also a third-team all-state pick as
a junior. Nelson, the daughter of Kent and Tracy Nelson, is ranked
first in her class at Oelwein and played for high school coach
Travis Druvenga.
“I’m
excited Adrian will be joining our program next year,” said
Stimmel. “She’s a good person and exactly what we
were looking for in a wing – someone who is athletic and
can get to the basket. She has a great feel for the game and can
shoot the three or get to the free throw line. We wanted to bring
in more scorers for next year and Adrian gives us that option.”
