CEDAR RAPIDS,
Iowa -- The
Midwest Collegiate Conference released its 2008 women’s
basketball all-conference teams today, and Mount Mercy College
junior guard Jessie Dirks received first-team honors by a vote
of league coaches.
Dirks led
the Mustangs and was sixth in the league in scoring at 14.8 points
per game. She also ranked second in the MCC in free throw percentage
(86.2%), fourth in 3-point field goals made per game (2.23), and
ninth in steals (1.97 spg).
St. Ambrose
University swept the individual awards. Sophomore guard Jenny
Clark, who was in the top seven in the conference in assists,
steals, scoring, and 3-point shooting, was named 2008 MCC Player
of the Year. Freshman guard Ali Dolphin was the 2008 MCC Newcomer
of the Year, and Nathan Altenhofen was honored as the 2008 MCC
Coach of the Year after leading the Queen Bees to the regular
season and conference tournament championships.
