Roles
The role of the leadership advisor is to provide support, education, and advocacy to the members of the Emerging Leaders Program. The ultimate goal is to assist the student in living out the principles of servant leadership and successfully graduating from Mount Mercy. The advisor communicates with the students primarily via I-Campus and email; therefore, it is important to check these daily.

The student role is to make a sincere effort to learn and grow within the principles of servant leadership and to assist the campus and global community. Students need to initiate contact with the advisor on any contact information changes, questions or difficulties prior to all deadlines.

Meetings
The advisor’s primary responsibility is to meet regularly with each Emerging Leader. These meetings include, but are not limited to, discussions of:
  • Individual program progress, campus involvement, academic progress,
or referrals to other faculty or staff as appropriate
  • Input about appropriate community service settings
  • Discernment of individual gifts, skills and interests
  • Reflection about leadership and service experiences
  • Reflection about personal development and whole person concepts

Referrals
One of the advisor’s responsibilities is to refer students to others who may be of assistance, both on or off-campus. Any student who is looking for support in any area (academic, career exploration, personal, relational, emotional, etc.) is encouraged to confer with the advisor.

Records and References
The Leadership Advisor keeps records of activity and performance for each student in the program. This allows the advisor to serve as a professional reference for any Emerging Leaders student both during and after their career at Mount Mercy College. Leadership students are encouraged to inform the advisor of all service and leadership experiences which they undertake, whether or not they fall directly under the scope of the Emerging Leaders Program.
