Year Program Goal:
Students
will be knowledgeable regarding leadership characteristics of
themselves and others, have an understanding of the need to know
oneself well in order to be an effective leader, and the ways
in which the servant leadership model supports the heritage and
present commitments of Mount Mercy.
Objectives:
1. Analyze and assess personal skills and characteristics contributing
to leadership potential and personal growth
2. Gain knowledge of the characteristics of a servant leader
3. Gain knowledge of leadership styles they possess and identify
future goals
4. Participate in at least two service projects
5. Reflect on how service experiences contribute to the common
good
6. Regular participation in at least one student organization
7. Achieve academic success
Activities
and Requirements
1. Attend 5 Emerging Leaders programs and take
notes for application to essays.
2. At least two service projects with a minimum
of 15 hours of involvement.
3. Read Leadership and Self-Deception by The
Arbinger Institute. Write essay on each assigned group of chapters,
answering questions posed by advisor.
4. Consistently be involved with at least one campus club
or organization, attending at least 75% of all meetings
and events, documenting regular meeting attendance and group participation.

Focused on
servant leadership and value exploration, the program also supports
academic stimuli, experiential learning, people skills, and personal
and/or spiritual motivations, guiding students to successful campus
and community leadership.

Second Year Program Goal:
Students will learn how to apply principles of leadership
through participating in workshops, functioning in a leadership
role on campus, and performing and reflecting on service learning
experiences. Students will also explore means to self improvement
through learning organizational skills, time management and prioritizing
exercises.
Objectives:
1. Participate in Emerging Leaders Programs that address concepts
and skills such as tolerance, diversity, sensitivity, communication,
conflict resolution, and other skills associated with organizational
understanding and leadership
2. Participate in two major service learning experiences, such
as Project America, Big Brother/Big Sister, Urban Plunge, etc.Students
will process their service learning to identify the skills of
the servant leader
3. Process personal role in campus organizations to identify leadership
roles
4. Continue a literature review of leadership writings and reflect
on challenges
5. Achieve academic success

Sean Covey, and complete the workbook.
3. Participate in two service projects with a

Third
Year Program Goal:
Students apply
leadership theory and practice in small group experiences.
Objectives:
1. Gain knowledge of leadership and organizational development
through group dynamics and conflict resolution.
2. Identify leadership styles in different situations, organizations,
and contexts.
3. Use their knowledge in group experiences that: identify needs,
brainstorm solutions, develop, implement, and evaluate interventions.
4. Students will achieve academic success.

1. Attend the
retreat and programs designated for third-year students
and complete any required readings and journal entries.
2. Read The Servant Leader by James Autry. Essay.
3. Participate in at least one individual service project
with a minimum of 10 hours of involvement.
4. In small groups, plan, implement and evaluate a service experience.
5. A minimum of 10 additional individual service hours
6. Consistently be involved in a leadership role
in at least one campus club or organization, attending at least
75% of all meetings and events, documenting regular meeting attendance,
group participation, and leadership responsibilities.

Fourth
Year Program Goal:
Students combine
knowledge and experience to complete a research project and presentation
related to their field of study.
Objectives:
1. Review the conceptual understanding of leadership and
organization development.
2. Use knowledge gained from course work, organizational
involvement, community service learning and personal experiences
in the selection, analysis, and presentation of a research project
to peers, faculty in their major, and professionals associated
with their field.
3. Evaluate their ability to identify and prioritize
complex elements of organizational life and community development,
as well as identify and evaluate the effectiveness of key organizational
leadership from the presentation.
4. Receive evaluations from faculty/professionals
regarding their presentations.
Note: All fourth-year
leadership requirements must be completed by March 30. Students
who are graduating in December must complete all of the fourth-year
requirements before graduation.
Activities
and Requirements
1. Participate
in at least one individual service project with
a minimum of 12 hours of involvement. Complete one small
group project with underclass students assigned.
2.Read Man’s Search for Meaning, by Viktor
Frankl and write a brief essay on the impact in your life.
3. Prepare and present a research project which
synthesizes servant-leadership and the student’s academic
major.
4. Consistently
be involved in a leadership role in at least one campus
club or organization, , attending at least 75% of all meetings
and events, documenting regular meeting attendance, group participation,
and leadership responsibilities.
