    Emerging Leaders FAQs

What clubs and organizations, or activities are acceptable to use?
  1. Clubs and Organizations authorized by Student Government Association
  2. Athletic teams
  3. M2AP Board
  4. Department sponsored music groups
  5. Mount Mercy Times – volunteer only, involvement must be ongoing
  6. College Pastoral Council

What clubs and organizations,
or activities are NOT acceptable to use?

  1. Stipend governance positions including class officers, student government officers.
  2. Paid positions such as Mount Mercy Times
  3. Credit earned activity such as choir class
  4. Emerging Leader programs attended
  5. If the activity is for renewal of another scholarship, for example, music scholarship, speech/drama scholarship or art scholarship

Emerging Leaders are expected to be actively involved in each organization to which they have made a commitment. What is considered active involvement?
  • Attendance at no less than 75% of the club’s meetings and activities
  • Participation during meetings and activities
  • A willingness to take on new responsibilities

Are Emerging Leaders that are involved in an athletic team expected to be involved in another club or organization?
  Yes

What counts for service projects during August through May?
  • Any nonprofit organization work done individually or with a group
  • Any church activity service hours
  • Any mission trips or mission work: local, in the United States or abroad
  • Club service hours above and beyond the norm (ie: Drama Club Children’s Theatre trips to schools), extra SIFE presentations, extra hours for nursing requirement (ie: 4 in addition to the course’s required 10).
  • Service to a family or individual that requires extra planning and effort on your part (ie: taking elderly relative not living with you to his/her grocery store or Dr. appointments).

What does not count for service projects?
  • Anything paid in any way (food, credit, money, gift certificates, room/board, etc.)
  • Any hours done for another class or another club as a basic requirement.
