A Lester Prairie, Minnesota native, Katie Kielkucki graduated in the spring of 2006. She was the second member of her family to attend Mount Mercy.

On coming to Mount Mercy:
“My brother went here for four years before I did, so coming to college here already had a sense of familiarity, and Mount Mercy was welcoming and comforting. I think a big part of it was being so welcomed by residence life and the orientation leaders on move-in weekend. The floor I lived on had really strong ties -- we did stuff together, and it really helped me feel like I was welcome here. I had great professors my first semester and if there was something that I wasn’t sure on I had amazing help with everything. It all just made me feel welcomed, even the staff, like Dorothy in the cafeteria knowing your name within the first month. It was something that I didn’t expect to happen.”

On joining the College Pastoral Council:
“I joined the College Pastoral Council (CPC), and it helped me grow spiritually, which is great!”

On student government:
“Being Student Government Vice President was something I didn’t think I would do, but I did. I’m really glad I was in student government because it helped me learn a lot more about campus and how the college is run. It really made me a part of Mount Mercy, and I could help students, which was great.”

On being a resident assistant:
“Being a residence assistant challenged me and changed me in every aspect of my life more than I ever imagined it would. It’s probably one of the best things I did on campus. It allowed me to learn about myself and to manage my time. I also helped and accepted other people and I did a variety of things that I would not have been able to do otherwise.”
