Mount Mercy College to Host Film Screening as Part of
Race and Gender Series
CEDAR
RAPIDS, Iowa (February 18, 2008) – Mount Mercy College will
host a screening of the film, A Little Salsa on the Prairie: The
Changing Character of Perry, Iowa, on February 21, 2008 at 7:30
p.m. in the Flaherty Community Room, located in Basile Hall on
the Mount Mercy College campus.
The film was
written and co-produced by Jody Swilky and captures what happens
when a community changes dramatically – in the workplace,
retail sector, public schools and places of worship – because
of the influx of Latinos, who have become the fastest growing
minority group in Iowa and the nation.
A Little Salsa
on the Prairie documents the economic and social challenges that
communities have experienced as they face an increasingly diverse
society. The film screening is part of the Race and Gender Series
hosted by Mount Mercy College. Admission is free and open to the
public.
Located
in Cedar Rapids, Iowa Mount Mercy College is a Catholic College
providing student-focused baccalaureate education in the spirit
