Mount Mercy MBA Program to Begin
CEDAR
RAPIDS, Iowa (March 14, 2008) – On Saturday, March 15 Mount
Mercy College will officially kick off its MBA program with the
start of two courses, and will hold a celebratory luncheon for
those students in the inaugural MBA program. Mount Mercy’s
Masters programs in Business and Education allow students to complete
the programs in less than two years while maintaining full-time
employment.
In May of
2007 Mount Mercy President Christopher Blake announced plans to
transition to Mount Mercy University by 2015, and the development
of Masters courses is a beginning phase of that plan. “It’s
a bold vision, not a timid one,” says Blake. “We should
not be afraid of change and growth if it’s done the right
way.”
There are
27 students in the inaugural Mount Mercy MBA program, which will
teach students to practice strategic decision-making and communication
through a community-centered, case study learning approach. The
current MBA courses will be offered on Saturdays from March 15
through May 17. The first MBA classes include “Statistics
for Managerial Decision Making,” taught by Assistant Professor
of Economics Dr. Ayman Amer, followed by a second course in the
MBA curriculum, “Legal Environment of Business,” taught
by Kathryn Coulter, J.D., professor of business.
In January
Mount Mercy kicked off its Masters of Arts in Education program,
which offers students an opportunity to earn an advanced degree
with an emphasis in special education or reading.
