Mount Mercy MBA Program Begins
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (March 17, 2008) – Mount Mercy
College kicked off its inaugural MBA program on Saturday, March
15 with a celebratory luncheon in Betty Cherry Heritage Hall.
All 27 members of the inaugural class were invited to join Graduate
Studies Director Dr. Melody Graham and MBA Program Director Tom
Castle, as well as faculty members Dr. Ayman Amer and Kathryn
Coulter. Twenty members of the MBA class are former Mount Mercy
graduates and the average age of those enrolled is 40. Mount Mercy’s
MBA program allows students to complete the degree in less than
two years while maintaining full-time employment.
In May of 2007 Mount
Mercy President Christopher Blake announced plans to transition
to Mount Mercy University by 2015, and the development of Masters
courses is a beginning phase of that plan. “It’s a
bold vision, not a timid one,” says Blake. “We should
not be afraid of change and growth if it’s done the right
way.”
The Mount
Mercy MBA program teaches students to practice strategic decision-making
and communication through a community-centered, case study learning
approach. The first MBA classes include “Statistics for
Managerial Decision Making,” taught by Amer, assistant professor
of economics, followed by a second course in the MBA curriculum,
“Legal Environment of Business,” taught by Coulter,
professor of business.
